About Heyday Upholstery

Gaelle from Heyday Upholstery

Why did I want to be an upholsterer?

Growing up around skilled craft family members, I learnt to appreciate the craftsmanship of upholstery, well-made sofas, suites and chairs as well as the range of traditional, modern or fun quality fabrics and leathers.

My grand-father was an upholsterer for Airborne Upholstery in France, famous for working with top furniture designers, including Olivier Mourgue. Mourgue was best known for creating iconic pieces such as the Djinn lounge range. Airborne was also famous for producing the Butterfly AA chair in the 1960s. So I basically grew up enjoying climbing over and under iconic upholstery pieces without realising what it was all about!

My upholstery journey started off when I inherited some family heirlooms. I desperately wanted to keep these special pieces of furniture and bring them into my world and home décor. Could I envisage throwing these beauties away? Heck no!

Why is it a good thing to reupholster?

I think that quality old furniture is still able to provide much use and has plenty of sentimental value. By giving furniture a helping hand and bringing it back to the present saves unnecessary furniture hitting the landfill heaps. As more and more people are aware of the impact that throw away furniture has on our world there is no better time to consider reupholstering.

I work with both traditional and modern methods. It helps me offer my customers the best for their particular piece of furniture. I enjoy mixing traditional materials with more modern ones to deliver great quality long lasting upholstery.
